Sharpening Stones

I am originally an Oklahoma girl but have since traveled far and wide with my Air Force husband of 15 years. David and I have 3 precious young’uns, twin sons (age 11) and a daughter (age 7). I am a forever work-in-progress whose current refining location is Colorado! I love writing to encourage all women, whether Mamas or not. I am a country girl, a romantic girl, and a saved girl who loves laughing my head off with my favorite posse: my family! I am a drinker of tea, lover of sweets, builder of friendships, and believer in Christ.

A woman who is crazy in love with the Lord. When she was little she wanted to be the President. Since that time, she has grown wiser and learned that the best job on earth is that of Mom. She has been through it and seen light at the end of tunnels. Still a work in progress and sometimes has to relearn a few lessons. She loves people. She makes messes just so she can organize them. She is curious and loves to learn how to make anything from scratch. She loves traveling to the same little places and those she has never heard of. She is like no one else in many ways. She is just like every other woman. She wants to walk along side you in your journey as a Woman, Wife, and/or Mom.

My biggest gift is fearlessness. I may be nervous about something, even terrified on the inside, but that rarely holds me back. I strongly believe that life cannot fail you, but you can fail at life by not trying to do as much as you can while you can. Every challenge that presents itself is an opportunity to talk to a new person, learn something new, and test yourself. The only barriers I believe in are ones we place on ourselves. I spend my days taking care of my husband, Keric, whom I’ve been married to for 17 years. He swept me off my feet and it has been an absolute joy to live out our adventure in life together. I also make sure that my children, C, age 11, and M, age 8, are spoiled beyond belief. They are lucky that I enjoy cooking enough that they usually get at least 4 semi-gourmet meals each week. I usually have to make at least one meal that is truly just good ‘ol down home, which contradicts the gourmet. I’m also the permanent babysitter for my children’s dogs, Tooey and Tucker. I feed, water, and walk them so that they love C and M even more. If Keric is home when I’m cooking dinner, then I am serenaded by him on the guitar while I work.

I was born in Nebraska and grew up there and in Iowa. That means that I was born with the football gene and would choose fall and football season as my favorite! I actually attended high school with my husband of almost 18 years, Ryan. We were good friends in high school, went on one date at 19 and decided to get married. Not the path I would recommend for everyone, but without a doubt the path God intended for us. We have moved many different places in the past 18 years in the Air Force, but are blessed to currently be living in beautiful Colorado. We have two children, L (11) and C (7), who are far braver, smarter, more energetic and more interesting than their parents. Fortunately they haven’t figured that out yet–except for the energetic part! I am obviously also blessed to be sharing this parenting journey with the other MSM moms whom I turn to regularly for my own bit of sharpening.

Ladies, I just found your website through “Heart to heart with Holley” or did it find me? Anyway, I love reading each of your bios and would love to become friends with you all as you are so positive and upbeat and loving, something our Father is teaching me everyday as I certainly didn’t grow up this way.
Please continue being you and looking forward to meeting you in person around His Throne.

    Your sister in Jesus,
    Yvonne

    Ladies-
Not sure if you recall this Mother’s Day story, but my friend Ladonna was the blessed winner of your Mother’s Day contest this past year. She received the wonderful prizes and treasured the domino necklace with the picture of her 3 boys. Wearing it everyday after she received it.

This week I attended the funeral of Ladonna. Her body was unable to fight the battle with cancer but her spirit now rests in the arms of Jesus. At the funeral, the Mother’s Day domino necklace was hanging around the urn that contained her ashes. The back of the domino had 6 dimples on one section and 4 dimples on the other………..the ages of her two youngest boys. 6+4=10………..the age of her oldest son. Her oldest pointed this out. They are hurting and filled with questions as many changes are in store for them. But thank you for giving Ladonna a gift she so treasured during her last few months on earth. Please continue to pray for her family during this time.
