Milestone Mania

Tomorrow I take my kids to Camp Wood. It will be the first time that either of them has gone to a sleep-away camp. They will be there for 6 nights. I am so excited for them both. BUT, I’m also very nervous about them being “away”.
The camp is located just under 2 hours from our house. Their schedule will be FULL of FUN. My son is actually going to participate in “Garage Band” camp. He will take his guitar, amp, and various other equipment he has related to it. He is pretty sure that he will come back from there with a band in its early days of formation. I’m pleasantly surprised by his enthusiasm and motivation. I just hope that he is truly able to meet other kids from our neck of the woods and that they are as motivated to jam as he is.
My daughter will be following a traditional camp program; however, she will spend each morning time block engaged in specific tracks of interest. For her, she chose “Cooking” and “Water Activities”. I can’t wait until she gets back and can prepare her new found recipes for me! Anyone that has ever met my daughter understands full well that she cannot resist playing in water. Whether it’s water pooled up along the edge of the curb, or a pristine pool, or a great swimmin’ hole, SHE WILL BE WET! And, it won’t make a bit of difference to her what she’s wearing. Ever since it became warm enough outside to hook the hose back up to the spout, she has gotten head-to-toe drenched at least 2 or 3 times a week.
How will I spend my week? Oh, I think I will manage to fill the time just fine. I’ve got at least 2 evenings of adult fun scheduled already. Really….I get to have conversations with other adults that aren’t going to be interrupted by the needs of either of my children. I’ve also got grand ideations of emptying the house of unwanted clutter that can’t be ditched when too many eyes are watching the garbage can. Of course I will donate as much as possible, but a lot of it is just going to vanish.
This weekend is also an extremely important time to reflect on my American culture! I will be attending a lovely Wichita Wingnuts baseball game and look forward to joining other military members on the field before the game, watching our base commander throw out the 1st pitch, and ending the evening by watching fireworks from the best seat in the house…the dugout! I can’t wait. Yes, I will eat a hot dog and drink a coke! I’ll skip the apple pie, but you can help yourself to my slice!

Wishing you and your family a great time of togetherness and fun –
Cheryl

    Cheryl:
I'm glad that you're taking a moment to refresh yourself and the kids. Sometimes we need a break from our normal routine in order to see God do something new in our lives. I pray you and your children are blessed during this time of renewal. Thanks for sharing! Oh, please eat the apple pie!!! Smile.

A little more letting go. Fortunately, you have prepared them well.

    Have a great 4th!
    Love,
    Rebecca
